Maharashtra ATS Arrests One More PFI Activist; 21 So Far

Mumbai, 27th Sept. The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested another Popular Front of India (PFI) activist on Monday in Nanded, Marathwada.

The arrest of Mohammad Abed Ali Mohammad Mehboob Ali (40), brings the total number of PFI activists arrested since the September 22 raids to 21.

Last week, the ATS registered four charges against PFI members for allegedly engaging in illegal activities and arrested 20 activists from various parts of Maharashtra.

According to an official, Ali was arrested under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for promoting enmity between different groups and conspiring to commit certain offences against the state, as well as provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

On Tuesday, he will be produced before the court.

Last Thursday, multi-agency teams arrested 106 leaders and activists of the radical Islamic outfit in near-simultaneous raids across 15 states for allegedly supporting terror activities in the country.
