Lok Sabha to Deploy AI Tools for Multilingual Support and Enhanced Parliamentary Processes

New Delhi- The Lok Sabha will soon adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to provide live interpretation and transcription of parliamentary debates in multiple languages and develop an AI-powered chatbot to assist Members of Parliament (MPs) with procedural rules and data access.

On Tuesday, the Lok Sabha Secretariat signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to develop “Sansad AI” in the presence of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The “Sansad Bhashini” initiative aims to deliver in-house AI solutions to enhance multilingual support and streamline parliamentary operations. Parliamentary data will be used to train and fine-tune these AI tools, with Bhashini contributing translation capabilities and technical expertise.

Key initiatives under Sansad Bhashini:

  • AI-Based Translation: Legacy debate documents, agenda files, committee meetings, and other parliamentary content will be translated into regional languages, ensuring linguistic diversity and accessibility.
  • AI-Powered Chatbot: A chatbot will be integrated into the Parliament website to assist MPs and officials with retrieving procedural rules and documents, providing instant, accurate responses and enhancing efficiency over time.
  • Real-Time Transcription: AI-driven speech-to-text conversion will transcribe debates in real time across Indian languages, improving record-keeping and accessibility.
  • Automatic Summarization: Lengthy discussions will be automatically summarized, enabling quicker decision-making and streamlined documentation.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed confidence that this initiative would transform parliamentary processes with cutting-edge AI solutions, enhancing multilingual accessibility, legislative documentation, and India’s position in tech-driven governance.
