London, 6th September. Liz Truss will be sworn in as the United Kingdom’s 56th Prime Minister today. She will succeed Boris Johnson, who will resign today to Queen Elizabeth II.

Truss was elected UK Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader by her fellow Conservative Party members yesterday.

Former Foreign Secretary Truss won with 57 percent of the vote over rival Rishi Sunak.

Truss, 47, will become the country’s third female prime minister. Previous female prime ministers, Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May, were both Conservative Party members.

Outgoing Prime Minister Johnson congratulated Truss on her victory and stated that she has the right strategy to unite the party.

Former chancellor Rishi Sunak, who criticized her economic plans during the campaign, has stated that he will fully support her.

Truss will now be tasked with reshaping the economy, halting rising inflation, and addressing the European continent’s energy crisis. In her victory speech, she promised a “bold” tax cut program to boost the flagging economy and keep the UK from entering recession.
