Raipur, 25th August. Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, chaired a critical review and inter-state coordination meeting on Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) in Raipur on Saturday.
The meeting brought together Chief Secretaries and Director Generals of Police from Chhattisgarh and neighbouring states, as well as key officials including Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai.
During the meeting, Shah outlined the government’s intensified strategy to combat Left-Wing Extremism, emphasizing that the campaign is at a decisive juncture under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He reiterated the commitment to eradicate LWE from the country by March 2026, stressing the need for a ruthless approach to dismantle the entire LWE ecosystem.
Shah highlighted the Modi government’s multi-faceted strategy, focusing on development, prosecution, and operational fronts, which has significantly reduced LWE activity, particularly in Chhattisgarh. He commended the state’s recent progress, including the neutralization and surrender of numerous Naxalites.
The Union Home Minister stressed the importance of rigorous monitoring and coordination. He called on Director Generals of Police to hold weekly meetings with Naxal operation teams and urged Chief Secretaries to review development works in affected areas every fortnight. He also emphasized the need to prevent the financing and supply of weapons to extremist groups.
Shah urged states to enhance the capabilities of their Special Investigation Agencies (SIAs) and to collaborate with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for inter-state LWE cases. He underscored the necessity of a holistic approach to tackling the supply chain and financing of LWE, and stressed the importance of educating individuals affected by extremism.
In closing, Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating Left-Wing Extremism, urging a collective effort from all states to achieve this goal and enhance the implementation of government schemes in LWE-affected regions.
