Washington DC, 14th Feb. US President Donald Trump denied allegations of US deep state involvement in Bangladesh’s regime change, which saw Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus take charge as chief adviser, forcing Sheikh Hasina to flee to India.
During a joint press briefing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a reporter questioned Trump on whether the previous Biden administration orchestrated the change in Dhaka. Trump sidestepped a direct response but remarked, “There was no role for our deep state. This is something the Prime Minister has been working on for a long time.”
India-Bangladesh ties have deteriorated since Hasina’s ouster, amid reports of radical Islamist attacks on minorities. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that PM Modi discussed concerns over Bangladesh’s stability with Trump and sought a constructive and stable relationship with the neighboring country.
PM Modi, on a two-day US visit, also met billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.
