Aizawl, 8th Dec. Lalduhoma, the leader of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), will be sworn in as the new chief minister of Mizoram on Friday.
Other ZPM leaders will also take oath as ministers on the same day. The oath of office and secrecy will be administered by Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Raj Bhavan complex in Aizawl, unless the weather is bad, in which case it will be moved to the annexe building of the assembly.
The state capital experienced heavy rain on Thursday.
On Tuesday, Lalduhoma was elected as the leader of the ZPM Legislature Party, with K Sapdanga as the deputy leader. The Val Upa Council, an advisory body of the party, met Lalduhoma on Wednesday to discuss the formation of the council of ministers.
Mizoram has a 40-member assembly, allowing for 12 ministers, including the chief minister.
The ZPM, which became a registered political party in 2019, won 27 seats in the assembly elections, a significant increase from their 8 seats in the 2018 polls.
This resulted in the removal of the Mizo National Front (MNF) led by outgoing chief minister Zoramthanga, who only managed to win 10 seats this time, compared to their 26 seats in 2018.
