Mumbai, 12th June: Zeeshan Akhtar, a prime suspect in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, has been arrested in Canada. Maharashtra Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, confirmed the arrest today, stating that efforts are underway to bring Akhtar back to India for further questioning.
Akhtar, 22, was reportedly caught in connection with a fake passport case. “Zeeshan, who was involved in the Baba Siddiqui murder case, has been arrested in Canada,” Kadam told PTI Videos. “We’ve started the process to bring him back to India. We’ll interrogate him further after he’s here.”
According to Mumbai Police, Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, Anmol Bishnoi, a jailed gangster, allegedly hired Zeeshan Akhtar and Shubham Lonkar to carry out the assassination.
Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister, was tragically shot dead in Bandra, Mumbai, on October 12, 2024. The high-profile murder shocked the political community. So far, police have arrested at least 25 people in connection with the case.
