Wayanad, 22nd Sept. The Kerala police said on Sunday that they have carried out a background check on the family of Rinson Jose, a Kerala native settled in Norway, following reports linking him to the investigation into the recent pager blasts in Lebanon. However, officials clarified that no formal case or investigation is currently underway.
A police officer stated, “There is no case or investigation. Our special branch officials have conducted a background check, which is standard procedure when such reports surface. There’s nothing new in it.”
The police have also initiated a precautionary patrol near Mananthavady, where Rinson’s family resides, but the family has not requested any police protection.
Rinson, who left India a decade ago, is now a Norwegian citizen and has been working in Norway. Amid these developments, BJP leader Sandeep G Varier called for protection for Rinson and his family. Varier, a member of the state BJP committee, posted on Facebook, “He is the son of our nation. He is a Malayali. At any cost, we must provide protection to Rinson and his family.”
A relative of Rinson, his maternal uncle Thankachan, expressed disbelief over the allegations. “He grew up here in Wayanad and completed his education in Kerala and outside. After finishing his MBA, he went abroad for work. We are 100 percent certain he has done nothing wrong,” Thankachan told the media.
Rinson’s family remains confident in his innocence, urging the media not to put undue pressure on them. His last visit to Kerala was in November 2023, before leaving for Norway again in January.
