New Delhi, 19th Dec. A political storm has erupted over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on BR Ambedkar, with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal taking a sharp jab at BJP allies. Kejriwal sought the opinions of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on the issue, raising questions about their stance.
In a post on X, Kejriwal wrote in Hindi, “The people of the country want to ask Honorable Nitish Ji and Chandrababu Naidu Ji – ‘Do you support the insult of Baba Saheb done by Amit Shah Ji?'”
The remarks followed Amit Shah’s criticism of the Congress, accusing the party of making it a “fashion” to invoke Ambedkar’s name. Shah stated, “If they had taken the name of God so many times instead of Ambedkar, they would have got heaven for seven lives.”
PM Modi Defends Shah, Targets Congress
Prime Minister Narendra Modi defended Amit Shah’s comments, asserting that Shah had exposed Congress’ historical disregard for Ambedkar. In a series of posts on X, Modi accused Congress of failing the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities during its tenure in power.
“In Parliament, Amit Shah Ji exposed the Congress’ dark history of insulting Dr. Ambedkar and ignoring the SC/ST communities. They are clearly stung and stunned by the facts he presented, which is why they are now indulging in theatrics,” PM Modi posted.
Modi Lists Congress’ Alleged “Sins”
Modi further alleged that Congress’ “sins” against Ambedkar included:
- Defeating him in elections twice, with Nehru making his loss a “prestige issue.”
- Denying him the Bharat Ratna.
- Delaying his portrait’s inclusion in Parliament’s Central Hall.
The Prime Minister added, “Congress can try as they want, but they can’t deny that the worst massacres against SC/ST communities have happened under their regimes.”
Kejriwal’s Questions Spark Political Tensions
Kejriwal’s remarks have intensified political tensions, with the BJP defending Shah and PM Modi accusing Congress of hypocrisy. The issue has placed BJP allies Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu in a politically sensitive position as they navigate public expectations amid this controversy.
