New Delhi, 10th Jan. With the announcement of dates for the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February 5 with results on February 8, political parties have ramped up their campaigns. Amid the election fervor, a claim has been circulating on social media that former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal will contest from two constituencies in the upcoming elections. However, this claim has been debunked by Kejriwal himself.
Viral Claim
The claim gained traction on social media platforms, with users asserting that Kejriwal’s decision to contest from two seats stems from a fear of losing. A user with the handle @samudragupta15 on platform X posted, “Heard Kejriwal is contesting from two seats out of fear of losing. Reality: You don’t have even a single supporter left in Delhi.” Another user, @RanjitRjk, wrote, “Reports suggest Kejriwal will contest from two seats. He seems afraid of defeat in Delhi.”
Fact-Check Findings
A fact-check conducted by Sajag revealed that the viral claim is baseless. Upon reviewing Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) official social media handles, no such announcement was found. Further investigation led to a report by Bharat 24, where Kejriwal clarified that he would contest from only one seat. Similarly, a report in Navbharat Times confirmed Kejriwal’s denial of the claim, quoting him as saying that he would only contest from the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
Conclusion
The claim that Arvind Kejriwal will contest from two seats in the Delhi Assembly elections is false. Kejriwal himself has confirmed that he will be contesting from a single seat—New Delhi. The circulating social media posts suggesting otherwise are misleading.
