New Delhi: Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday levelled fresh allegations of corruption against former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, calling him a “Master of Corruption” and citing RTI records that suggest over ₹29.56 crore was spent on maintaining Kejriwal’s official residence in Civil Lines between March 31, 2015, and December 27, 2022.
Speaking to IANS, Sachdeva questioned the extravagant expenditure, stating,
“The scams perpetrated by Kejriwal are never-ending. We will demand that the Delhi government conduct an inquiry into how nearly ₹1 lakh per day was spent on maintaining his bungalow. Every penny must be recovered.”
According to Sachdeva, the annual expenditure of ₹3.69 crore on repairs, sewage, electricity, and structural work reflects either an unusually lavish lifestyle or potential misuse of public funds.
He revealed that the data emerged in response to an RTI filed by a Maharashtra-based citizen, which sought maintenance details of Kejriwal’s government residence on Flag Staff Road, Civil Lines. The Delhi government, in its December 29, 2023 reply, outlined the expenditures incurred under general upkeep from 2015 to 2022.
“In Delhi, one can build a 250-300 sq. yard house for ₹3-4 crore, yet Kejriwal’s bungalow maintenance cost nearly that much each year. This is shocking,” said the BJP leader.
Sachdeva also criticized Kejriwal’s silence since AAP’s defeat in Delhi elections, saying the former CM has avoided the media and is yet to address the public on corruption charges.
“People of Delhi want to know what was so deficient in his house that it required ₹31 lakh per month for maintenance,” he said.
Apart from Kejriwal, Sachdeva also took aim at former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, who is already under CBI investigation in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.
“We will demand a CBI probe into his alleged corruption in the education sector and the AAP government’s collusion with private schools,” he added.
