New Delhi, 13th Sept. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday called for the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, following the Supreme Court’s decision to grant him conditional bail in the excise policy-linked corruption case.
The BJP’s reaction came after the top court granted bail to Kejriwal in the case lodged by the CBI and said that prolonged incarceration amounts to unjust deprivation of liberty.
At a press conference held at the BJP headquarters, national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia slammed Kejriwal, labeling him as “kattar beimaan” (outright dishonest).
“The Supreme Court has shown a mirror to Arvind Kejriwal. He should immediately resign following this decision,” Bhatia said.
Bhatia said that Kejriwal remains an accused in the case, as the court’s bail decision was conditional.
“The charges against him have not been quashed, nor has he been acquitted. Kejriwal’s position as chief minister is untenable while he is out on bail,” Bhatia argued.
He further questioned the credibility and stature of a chief minister who is required to report to the investigation officer twice a week. “What influence and reputation does a chief minister who is under investigation and on bail possess? The people of Delhi deserve a better leader,” Bhatia added.
Bhatia also criticized Kejriwal for allegedly clinging to power despite facing serious allegations. “Morality cannot be expected from someone who is sticking to the chief minister’s chair using ‘Fevicol’. Kejriwal once claimed that anyone facing allegations should resign,” he said.
Drawing a comparison with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bhatia asserted, “Mamata Banerjee bowed down and offered to resign. Similarly, this corrupt Arvind Kejriwal will also have to bow down.”
In response to former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s remarks hailing Kejriwal’s bail as a victory of truth, Bhatia sarcastically commented, “When the kingpin of the liquor scam is out on bail, what else will the ‘queen-pin’ say?”
The BJP’s demand comes amid ongoing controversy and public scrutiny surrounding Kejriwal and the excise policy case.
