Srinagar, 17th Sept. With Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections approaching, the Kashmiri Pandit community is calling for urgent action on unresolved issues of unemployment and housing. Nearly 35 years after the 1990 exodus, many Pandits feel political parties have failed to address their concerns.
Babloo Ji Butt, a community representative, expressed frustration over unfulfilled promises, accusing leaders of giving empty assurances. He criticized the slow progress of the Prime Minister’s package, which promised 6,000 jobs and housing but has only partially delivered.
Sunita Bhan echoed these sentiments, criticizing the low salaries under the package and the lack of meaningful initiatives. She highlighted that many Pandit families remain in rented accommodations and urged for earlier action.
Despite the challenges, relationships between Kashmiri Pandits and local Muslims remain strong. Yatin Pandita called for more employment opportunities and effective rehabilitation policies, emphasizing the need for inclusive development.
As Srinagar prepares to vote on September 25, the Kashmiri Pandit community hopes their demands for better job prospects and housing will finally be addressed.
