Ranchi, 23rd Nov. The JMM-led coalition, comprising the Congress and RJD, secured a decisive victory in the Jharkhand Assembly elections on Saturday, winning 56 out of 81 seats and retaining power for a second consecutive term.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) won 34 seats, while alliance partners Congress and RJD secured 16 and 4 seats respectively. The CPI(ML) Liberation added two seats to the tally.
The BJP-led NDA suffered a significant defeat, managing only 24 seats. The BJP itself won 21 seats, with its allies—Ajsu Party, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and JD(U)—winning one seat each.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, campaigning amid legal troubles due to a money-laundering case, emphasized his government’s social welfare initiatives and accused the BJP-led Centre of conspiring against him. The BJP’s campaign, in contrast, focused on corruption allegations against the Soren administration and concerns over “infiltration from Bangladesh.”
This victory cements the JMM’s position as a dominant political force in Jharkhand, while the BJP faces challenges in regaining its foothold in the state.
