Srinagar, 15th Feb. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday dismissed three government employees, including a police constable, a teacher, and a forest department orderly, over their alleged links with terrorist outfits. The action follows Sinha’s recent directive for the “strongest possible action” against individuals aiding terrorism in the region.
According to sources, investigations by law enforcement and intelligence agencies confirmed their connections to terror networks. The dismissed employees include Firdous Ahmad Bhat, a Jammu and Kashmir Police constable arrested in May 2024; Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, a teacher currently lodged in a district jail; and Nisar Ahmad Khan, an orderly in the forest range office. Authorities revealed that Firdous and Ashraf Bhat had links to Lashkar-e-Taiba, while Nisar Ahmad Khan was associated with Hizbul Mujahideen.
The crackdown comes amid heightened security concerns following recent terrorist activities along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu. On February 11, a powerful IED blast in Akhnoor claimed the lives of two Army personnel, including a captain. A day earlier, a soldier was injured in cross-border firing in Rajouri.
In a security review meeting on February 13, LG Sinha ordered strict measures to dismantle terror networks and eliminate local support for terrorism. “We must ensure that acts of individuals or groups trying to create fear in society are treated as terrorist actions and punished under the law,” he stated.
Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy, Sinha assured security forces of a “free hand” in tackling terrorism and vowed severe consequences for those providing logistical and financial support to terror groups.
The latest move signals J&K’s intensified counterterrorism efforts, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to national security.
