Ranchi, 9th August.
The Jharkhand High Court directed the state government on Thursday to take urgent measures against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants entering through the Santhal Parganas.

A division bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad and Justice Arun Kumar Rai, issued the directive while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Daniel Danish. The court expressed concern over the potential rise in illegal immigration due to the current instability in Bangladesh.

The bench ordered the inclusion of several key officials in the case, including the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Director General of the BSF, Chief Election Commissioner of India, and Director General of the Unique Identification Authority of India. These officials have been asked to respond to the court’s notices.

Additionally, the court recommended that the government conduct surprise inspections of Aadhaar and voter identity cards to identify and deter illegal settlers. The judges emphasized that both state and Union governments must collaborate to address the issue.

The petition alleges that Bangladeshi immigrants have infiltrated the state, particularly disturbing the demographic balance in the Santhal Parganas. It claims that illegal immigration poses a serious threat to national sovereignty.

The case is scheduled for a further hearing on August 22.
