In the midst of a nationwide farmers’ protest, the Jharkhand government has decided to give a big relief to the farmers. The state government has decided to waive loan amount of up to Rs 50000 for about nine lakh farmers. For this, Rs 2000 crore will be spent as per budgetary allocation in the current financial year.
A decision to this effect was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday. The cabinet has approved the allocation of Rs 2000 crore for the loan waiver of farmers. According to the decision taken in the cabinet meeting, the state government will waive the loan of farmers who have taken loans till 31st March, 2020.
Jharkhand Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh said, “A total of 12.93 lakh farmers have taken agricultural loans in the state.” According to the scheme, only one person’s loan from a family will be waived.
