New Delhi/Bengaluru, 23rd June.
Janata Dal-Secular (JD(S)) leader Suraj Revanna has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 27-year-old male party worker. The arrest comes in the wake of multiple allegations of sex crimes against his younger brother, Prajwal Revanna.

The case was filed against Suraj Revanna based on a complaint registered by the party worker, who accused the JD(S) leader of sexually assaulting him at a farmhouse in Karnataka’s Hassan district on June 16.

Suraj Revanna has denied the allegations, claiming that the complaint is part of an extortion attempt. He alleged that the accuser demanded ₹ 5 crore, threatening to file a false sexual abuse complaint if the money was not paid. Suraj’s friend, Shivkumar, also filed a police complaint, supporting Suraj’s claims of extortion. Shivkumar stated that the party worker initially approached him seeking employment. After failing to secure a job, the worker allegedly began blackmailing both Shivkumar and Suraj.

This development follows the recent arrest of Suraj’s brother, former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who was sent to judicial custody amid allegations of sexual misconduct. Explicit videos purportedly involving Prajwal were circulated in Hassan ahead of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26. The JD(S) suspended Prajwal Revanna from the party following the accusations.

The BJP has distanced itself from the controversy, with its state unit chief, S Prakash, stating, “We, as a party, have nothing to do with the videos and neither do we have any comments to make.”

In addition to these allegations, a police case has been filed against their father, HD Revanna, a former MLA and Public Works Department Minister. He is accused of kidnapping a woman who claimed she was raped by both men. HD Revanna was granted bail on May 14 for the kidnapping case and subsequently for the sexual assault case.
