Japan has taken a significant step towards facilitating tourism and travel by officially introducing its electronic visa (e-Visa) program for several countries, including India. This e-Visa, tailored for air travelers holding ordinary passports, offers a single-entry validity of up to 90 days.

The introduction of electronic visas (e-Visas) via the Japan e-Visa system aims to streamline the visa application process, particularly for individuals planning short-term tourism in Japan.

Eligibility Criteria: Citizens of the following countries and regions are eligible for the e-Visa program: Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and USA. Additionally, Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing in India are also eligible. Residents of these countries or regions, excluding those exempt from short-term visas, can apply for an e-Visa through the Japan e-Visa website.

Application Process: To apply for the e-Visa, applicants should follow these steps:

  1. Verification of Necessary Visa and Documents: Choose the appropriate visa type for your trip and prepare the required documents.
  2. Application Information Entry: Fill in the necessary information for the online visa application on the Japan e-Visa website.
  3. Notification of Examination Result: The results of the visa application will be communicated to the applicant’s registered email address.
  4. Visa Fees Payment: Pay the visa fees as notified via email to Japanese overseas establishments where you are applying.
  5. e-Visa Issuance Procedure: Upon payment, the e-Visa will be issued. Applicants may be required to appear in person at the Japanese overseas establishment with jurisdiction over their place of residence for an interview during the application process.

With the launch of the e-Visa program, Japan aims to enhance accessibility for tourists and streamline the visa application process, fostering closer ties and promoting cultural exchange between Japan and the eligible countries and regions.
