New Delhi/ Rampur, 19th Sept. The driver of the Naini Jan Shatabdi Express averted an accident by applying emergency brakes after spotting an iron pole on the tracks near Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, officials reported on Thursday. The incident, which took place on Wednesday night near Rudrapur City Railway Station, is being investigated as a possible act of sabotage.
According to a spokesperson from the Railway Ministry, the train’s loco pilot noticed a six-meter-long iron pole obstructing the tracks between Bilaspur Road and Rudrapur City at 10:18 PM on September 18. “The driver promptly stopped the train and cleared the track before resuming the journey safely,” the official said.
In response to the incident, Rudrapur City Section Railway Engineer Rajendra Kumar filed an FIR at the GRP Police Station in Rampur under the Railways Act 1989. The FIR indicates that the quick action of the driver helped avoid a major accident.
Local authorities, including personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and other law enforcement agencies, have launched an investigation into the incident. The Railway Ministry has suggested that this may be part of a larger trend of intentional obstructions on tracks, citing recent cases where gas cylinders, boulders, or broken rails were deliberately placed to disrupt train operations.
A similar incident occurred on August 24 in Farrukhabad, where a train was stopped after its engine struck a log placed on the Kasganj-Farrukhabad track. In another case, an FIR was filed in Kanpur over suspected sabotage following the derailment of 20 passenger coaches.
Authorities are investigating to trace the individuals responsible for these acts and ensure the safety of railway operations.
