Italy PM Meloni’s Namaste Greeting at G7 Summit Wins Hearts Online

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s unique way of welcoming global leaders at the G7 Summit has captured widespread attention. On Thursday, Prime Minister Meloni greeted the arriving dignitaries with the traditional Indian Namaste gesture, a move that quickly went viral on social media.

Italy is hosting this year’s G7 Summit, taking place in Borgo Egnazia in the city of Apulia, southern Italy, from June 13-15. Videos of Meloni’s Namaste greetings have surfaced across various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), showing her welcoming German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen with the graceful gesture.

The Namaste greeting has sparked a buzz on social media, with users appreciating the cultural nod and discussing its significance. Key agendas for this year’s summit include pressing global issues such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Israel-Hamas War, advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), and climate change.

The G7 Summit brings together leaders from its member states: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US.

Additionally, the President of the European Commission, representing the European Union, is in attendance. This year, India has been invited as an outreach country, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Apulia late Thursday night. This visit marks his first international trip after assuming office for a third consecutive term as India’s Prime Minister.

Leaders from Ukraine, Brazil, Argentina, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Algeria, Tunisia, and Mauritania are also participating in the prestigious global summit, highlighting its broad and inclusive agenda.
