Prayagraj, 18th Jan. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), in collaboration with the Adani Group, is serving over one lakh meals daily at the ongoing Maha Kumbh, an official from the spiritual organisation revealed.
At a camp on Harshvardhan Marg, ISKCON’s kitchen prepares food for 30,000–35,000 people per session, serving more than one lakh people across three sessions each day, said Madhukant Das, ISKCON’s Director (CSR). Meals include dal, chole or rajma, vegetables, roti, rice, and sweets such as halwa or boondi laddus, all prepared on clay stoves using wood and cow dung cakes for enhanced flavor.
Meals are distributed at 40 locations across Prayagraj, including bus stands, railway stations, and holding areas for devotees on key bathing days. The initiative also provides food to 15,000 sanitation workers at the fair and surrounding areas. ISKCON has established three kitchens at Khusrobagh, Netra Kumbh in Sector 6, and ISKCON temple premises in Sector 19 for the purpose.
“Preparations for the event began six months ago with the production of cow dung cakes,” said Madhukant Das, adding that the project is environmentally friendly, avoiding the use of plastic.
The Adani Group has deployed 100 vehicles and 3,000–3,500 volunteers in partnership with ISKCON. An Adani official noted the overwhelming response from employees eager to serve, with 4,000 registrations within a day on the company’s service portal.
Senior executives, including vice presidents and general managers, are also participating in the service effort, working in batches of 100–150 volunteers.
Officials said that the Adani Group’s involvement has amplified ISKCON’s capacity to distribute food by 8–10 times, ensuring smooth operations at the 45-day spiritual event.
