Iowa Poll Predicts Kamala Harris Ahead of Trump as State Emerges as Key Battleground

New Delhi, 4th Nov. As the November 5 U.S. Presidential elections approach, Iowa is gaining attention as a potential swing state, despite being overlooked by both Democrat and Republican campaigns during the primaries. A recent poll conducted by the Des Moines Register reveals that Vice President Kamala Harris is leading former President Donald Trump 47% to 44%, bolstered by strong support from women and independent voters.

Trump dismissed the poll as “fake” and “skewed,” claiming at a rally in Pennsylvania that he is performing well in Iowa, stating, “The farmers love me and I love them.” Despite Trump’s confidence, the poll indicates a notable shift in voter sentiment, particularly among women aged 65 and older and self-identified independents. Harris enjoys significant backing from these groups, receiving 63% of senior women’s support compared to Trump’s 28%, and 57% of independents favoring Harris over 29% for Trump.

Historically, Iowa has leaned Republican, with Trump winning by nearly 10 points in the last two elections. However, it is not a firm Republican stronghold, as Barack Obama won the state in 2008 and 2012. With more than 75 million Americans already casting their votes, the focus on swing states has intensified, as candidates work to secure critical electoral support.

As the candidates concentrate their efforts in more traditionally recognized battlegrounds—Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—Iowa’s emerging role could significantly influence the electoral landscape.

The poll, conducted from October 28 to 31 with 808 likely Iowa voters, suggests that the electoral dynamics in the state may be shifting as voters respond to each candidate’s messages on fundamental freedoms, constitutional values, and economic issues. Harris continues to highlight the importance of safeguarding women’s rights, while Trump focuses on economic revitalization and addressing illegal immigration.
