Washington, 20th June. Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts gathered at the scenic Wharf overlooking the Potomac river to celebrate International Yoga Day. The event, graced by India’s Deputy Ambassador to the US Sripriya Ranganathan, commenced with prayers and mesmerizing Indian classical dance performances.
Emphasizing this year’s theme ‘Yoga for Self and Society’, participants immersed themselves in yoga sessions that embodied unity and harmony inspired by ancient Indian practices.
The International Day of Yoga, observed annually on June 21, promotes holistic well-being globally. Ms. Ranganathan highlighted yoga’s role in fostering societal harmony and balance for a brighter future.
Acknowledging yoga’s global appeal, Ms. Ranganathan noted the United Nations’ recognition of June 21 as International Yoga Day since 2014, supported by a record 175 member states. Originating in the Indus Valley civilization, yoga continues to transcend borders, embraced by millions worldwide for its profound physical and mental benefits.
The event also featured efforts to promote the integration of millets and environmentally-friendly practices into daily life, as outlined in a media release.
