Intelligence Gaps? Rising Tensions: Political Narratives Protests

Poonam Sharma

We have been noticing for some time now that since Modi came back to power, there have been attempts by certain groups to raise issues. These groups have been attempting to manufacture situations, and as you can observe, attempts are being made to generate some sort of conflict through various means, including spreading misinformation and fake news. Each problem that occurs appears in a “fake news packet” from which misdirectional points are drawn out. What is being seen here is a concerted effort to use different groups and their facts to create doubts regarding the BJP and the government.

Consider, for instance, the recent furore about a minister who made a query regarding our cricketers. This became a talking point for some time, but on the same day, another political party attempted to rake up a different issue during a press conference, though it didn’t make waves because the issue regarding cricket had dominated.

What is being tried to convey is that there is a deliberate attempt to create chaos around specific issues. Moving to current events, protests have already started, particularly around statements made about the political situation. For instance, yesterday, a protest was organized by the Jamaat-e-Islami and various Islamic student organizations at Jantar Mantar, attempting to recreate a Shaheen Bagh-like situation.

If you see what is going on there, individuals are protesting and issuing statements. Mohan Singh, who is the convener of the Six Personal Law Board, was also present there, raising slogans and mobilizing support. The organizers of this protest issued a statement that they are ready to block the Delhi and CK borders.

What I fail to comprehend is why such protests were permitted to take place in the first place, and if permitted, why did intelligence agencies fail to act so that it wouldn’t occur? Intelligence sources should have known about the kind of people who were going there and the type of issues being brought up. That is a rather interesting question—why didn’t the police or intelligence networks hear about these activities in time?

Additionally, last night, one witnessed a violent episode in connection to a match, in which violence was unleashed, but that appeared to be an extension of a larger story. It’s particularly scary to think about the Mangad case, where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighted that stones were hurled at homes. If such premeditated attacks are taking place, it absolutely means there’s a defect in the internal intelligence network.

While protests and issues like these will always occur, it’s crucial for intelligence agencies to understand the true purpose behind them. If incidents like these keep happening repeatedly, it raises a bigger question—what exactly is the purpose behind these protests? Why are there suddenly small, sporadic riots breaking out?

For example, recently there was a new controversy surrounding a statement about the Waqf Board. All those participating in these protests have definite political agendas. We have seen in the recent Jantar Mantar protests that people like Asaduddin Owaisi and others were taking part, delivering incendiary speeches.

But the point is, these protests are about far more than the cause they protest. Take, for instance, the statement by one protestor that the Waqf Board has 200 million Muslims in India and that they will never let non-Muslims occupy the Waqf Board. These are not merely loose words—these are politically motivated words. These protests are designed to create tensions and leverage issues such as religion, history, and identity.

There is also a larger political game being played. The BJP government has made aggressive moves, and some believe that by fueling protests, they can undermine the BJP’s grip on power. The opposition is seeking chances to splinter the government’s ranks.

Another problem that has been causing tensions is that of the removal of memorials connected to Aurangzeb. Why are such supportive elements still in our society even existing ?   There are individuals on one side who wish to erase his history, and others on the other side who are standing up for it …what is this going on  by the way ? This has been causing a lot of tension and further exacerbating division.

The issue here is not the protests themselves but the overall strategy behind them. It’s obvious that there are political agendas involved, and we must know the implications of these actions. We must dig deeper into the intention of these protests and the intelligence agencies’ role in monitoring the actual motivations behind these activities.

Nagpur situation and the political scenario in the nation must be observed with cautious consideration. The timing of these protests is not accidental. When security was tightened during festivals such as Holi, minor incidents began to take place throughout the nation, and police had to act quickly to keep things under control. But the bigger picture is that we must make sure these stories do not get out of hand and cause more turmoil.
