Infosys Share Dip Hits IT Index and Narayana Murthy Family’s Wealth

Mumbai, 20th Jan. Shares of Infosys Ltd plunged nearly 6%, causing a ripple effect on IT companies and key benchmark indices like Sensex and Nifty. This decline also negatively impacted the fortunes of the Murthy family, co-founders and major promoters of Infosys.

As of the September quarter, N.R. Narayana Murthy held a 0.40% stake in Infosys, while his wife Sudha Murthy owned 0.92%. Their son, Rohan Murthy, and daughter, Akshata Murthy—who is also the wife of former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak—held 1.62% and 1.04% stakes, respectively. Additionally, Narayana Murthy’s grandson, Ekagra Rohan Murthy, had a minor 0.04% stake in the IT giant.

Collectively, the Murthy family owned 4.02% of Infosys, valued at approximately ₹30,300 crore as of today. This marks a loss exceeding ₹1,850 crore after Infosys’ market value dropped by ₹32,152 crore. The family’s holdings reflect data from the September quarter, as Infosys’ December quarter shareholding pattern is yet to be disclosed.

On the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Infosys shares fell 5.89%, hitting a low of ₹1,812.70. The dip reduced IT stocks’ six-month gains to just 5.42%, despite Infosys’ Q3 results exceeding expectations on several metrics.
