India’s Technical Textiles Market Shows Significant Growth Potential: Textiles Secretary

The Ministry of Textiles, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Ahmedabad Textiles Industries’ Research Associations (ATIRA), organized a National Symposium on Advancements in Composites, Speciality Fibres, and Chemicals in New Delhi today. The symposium shed light on India’s burgeoning Technical Textiles market, which boasts a remarkable growth rate of 10%, positioning it as the 5th largest in the world.

Mrs. Rachna Shah, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, emphasized the immense potential of India’s Technical Textiles market during her address at the symposium. She highlighted the diverse applications of composites in various sectors such as infrastructure development, aerospace, automotive, military and defense, and medical devices. Mrs. Shah stressed the importance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders to address cost implications and increase awareness for wider adoption of technical textiles.

Strategic Decisions Drive Application of Advanced Composites: Member NITI Ayog

Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog, underscored the strategic decision-making involved in the application of advanced composites. He highlighted the significance of specialty fibres as the building blocks of advanced composites, tailored for diverse applications ranging from fire-retardant fabrics to bullet-resistant jackets and renewable energy solutions like windmills. Dr. Saraswat also discussed top trends in composite materials and emphasized the importance of sustainable practices in the industry.

Railways Sector Explores Geotextiles and Geo-composites: RDSO Director General

Shri Ajay Kumar Rana, Director General of RDSO, discussed the utilization of geotextiles and geo-composites in the railways sector. He highlighted their applications in load-bearing structures, erosion protection, drainage, and filtration. Shri Rana also mentioned ongoing efforts to develop guidelines and standards for the use of geo-composites in collaboration with BIS.

NTTM Mission Aims to Position India as Global Leader in Technical Textiles: Ministry of Textiles

Shri Rajeev Saxena, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, emphasized the importance of technical textiles in driving productivity, efficiency, and innovation across various sectors. He elaborated on the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) and its objectives to position India as a global leader in the field. Shri Saxena highlighted various guidelines under the NTTM related to research, innovation, start-ups, education, and skilling.

Space and Aerospace Sector Sees Promising Applications for Composites: SAC Director

Shri Nilesh M Desai, Director of the Space Applications Centre (SAC/ISRO), highlighted the significant role of composites in the space and aerospace sector. He discussed the use of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and astro glass fibers in space applications due to their lightweight and durable properties.

The symposium witnessed participation from around 150 officials and representatives from central ministries, user departments of central and state governments, industry leaders, scientific experts, researchers, and professionals related to technical textiles. The collaborative efforts showcased the commitment towards fostering growth and innovation in India’s Technical Textiles industry.
