New Delhi, 31st Jan. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar in his address at the Joint Sitting of both Houses of Parliament o Friday, reflected on the progress India has made in its journey toward a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).
Commencing his speech by paying tribute to the 75th anniversary of India’s Constitution and the completion of 75 years of the Indian Republic, he highlighted the nation’s commitment to the core principles of service, governance, prosperity, and pride.
Acknowledging the Mahakumbh as an expression of India’s cultural and social consciousness, the Chairman expressed sorrow over the tragic incident during the Mauni Amavasya festival, wishing for the speedy recovery of the injured.
He then focused on various government initiatives that are transforming India, including the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, and the Jal Jeevan Mission, which have empowered millions of citizens and provided them with confidence and dignity. These efforts have lifted 25 crore people out of poverty, enabling them to progress in life.
The Chairman also took pride in the achievements of Indian women, noting how they are now excelling in diverse fields, from flying fighter jets to leading corporations, thanks to progressive decisions such as opening the National Defence Academy to female cadets. India’s growing prowess in sports, particularly with the success of its athletes in the Olympics and Paralympics, was also highlighted.
In his address, the Chairman underscored India’s rise in global rankings, mentioning the country’s second-place position in the QS World Future Skills Index for leadership in AI and digital technology. India’s impressive progress in the Global Innovation Index, advancing from 76th to 39th position, was another key achievement.
He also mentioned several ambitious infrastructural projects, including the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link and metro expansions in major cities like Delhi, Pune, and Bengaluru. Additionally, the government’s commitment to green transport through the deployment of 52,000 electric buses was applauded.
Highlighting India’s focus on sustainable development, the Chairman noted the launch of the National Mission for Natural Farming and efforts to enhance India’s agricultural sector, which is already the world’s largest producer of milk, pulses, and spices.
Further acknowledging India’s diverse regions, the Chairman commended the government’s efforts to ensure unity through cultural initiatives like the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam, Kashi-Telugu Sangamam, and Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam.
He also drew attention to the progress in Jammu & Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370, praising the peaceful conduct of elections and the region’s path toward development. Reflecting on the legacy of leaders like Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Chairman reiterated the government’s dedication to the nation’s unity and sovereignty.
Finally, he called for continuous collective efforts from all MPs to fulfill the vision of a developed, empowered India by 2047, underlining the shared responsibility in achieving the goal of “Viksit Bharat.”
