India’s Coal Production Hits 84.45 MT in October 2024

New Delhi, 2nd Nov. India’s coal production surged to 84.45 million tonnes (MT) in October 2024, marking a 7.48% rise over the 78.57 MT produced in October last year, according to the Ministry of Coal. This growth reflects ongoing efforts to bolster coal availability in response to rising energy demands.

Production from captive and other entities showed substantial gains, reaching 16.59 MT in October, up 41.75% from 11.70 MT during the same month last year. Cumulative coal production for the current fiscal year reached 537.45 MT by the end of October, a 6.10% increase from 506.56 MT over the same period in FY 2023-24.

Coal dispatches also saw a 4.60% boost, with 82.89 MT dispatched in October 2024 compared to 79.25 MT in October 2023. Dispatches from captive and other sources grew significantly to 16.18 MT, a 36.83% increase from last year’s 11.83 MT. Cumulative coal dispatch for FY 2024-25 rose to 571.39 MT, reflecting a 5.52% year-over-year increase.

The Ministry emphasized its commitment to ensuring a steady coal supply to power India’s energy sector, highlighting continuous efforts to enhance production and streamline logistics.
