New Delhi, 24th April. As part of the Earth Day celebrations, the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has introduced and activated India’s largest Climate Clock at the CSIR Headquarters Building in Rafi Marg, New Delhi.
The installation of this monumental clock underscores CSIR’s commitment to raising awareness about climate change and its adverse effects.

During the inauguration ceremony, Professor Chetan Singh Solanki of IIT Bombay and Founder of Energy Swaraj Foundation emphasized the urgent need for energy literacy among citizens. He stressed the importance of every individual’s responsibility to minimize energy consumption to combat climate change effectively.
In conjunction with the Climate Clock activation, Dr. Shailesh Nayak, Former Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences and Director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies, delivered the CSIR AMRIT Lecture on “Unravelling the Secrets of Triggered Earthquakes: The Lighthouse Project of Scientific Drilling in Koyna”. The CSIR Accelerating Modern Research, Innovations, and Technologies (AMRIT) Lecture Series aims to glean insights from India’s leading scientific and technological figures to guide actions by research and development organizations, particularly CSIR.
Addressing the audience, Dr. N Kalaiselvi, Director-General of CSIR, highlighted the significance of Earth Day as a reminder of the collective responsibility to safeguard the environment. She revealed that, under the CSIR-Energy Swaraj Foundation MoU, a significant number of CSIR scientists and staff have undergone Energy Literacy Training.
Furthermore, Climate Clocks provided by the Foundation have been installed in numerous CSIR laboratories, further promoting awareness and action on climate change mitigation and energy conservation.
