Prayagraj, 18th Jan. As the Maha Kumbh Mela draws millions of devotees from across India and abroad, Indian Railways has ramped up efforts to ensure the health and safety of pilgrims by establishing medical facilities at key railway stations, including Prayagraj Junction.
A dedicated observation room has been set up at the entry gate towards platform number 3 at Prayagraj station. These facilities are equipped with essential medical devices such as Electrocardiogram (ECG) machines, defibrillators, oxygen concentrators, and glucometers to address emergencies like cardiac arrest, respiratory issues, and diabetes-related complications.
A pharmacist stationed at the medical centre stated, “Our nursing staff is available 24/7 to provide immediate care. For severe cases, patients are swiftly transferred to nearby hospitals via ambulance.”
In one instance, a woman who felt dizzy late at night near the canal received timely care at the centre. Her relative, Naveen, expressed gratitude, stating, “We were on our way to the Ganga for a bath when her health deteriorated. The railway staff’s quick response and excellent care were commendable.”
Indian Railways has made these arrangements to provide round-the-clock health services during the 45-day-long Mela. With over 7 crore devotees having already bathed at the Triveni Sangam, the total attendance is expected to surpass 50 crore by the festival’s conclusion on February 26.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, held once every twelve years, is a sacred event where pilgrims perform ritual baths at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. Indian Railways’ efforts aim to ensure a safe and fulfilling experience for all attendees.
