Indian Navy Successfully Airlifts Critically Injured Chinese Mariner from Bulk Carrier

Mumbai, 25th July. In a rescue operation, the Indian Navy successfully airlifted a critically injured Chinese mariner from the bulk carrier Zhong Shan Men off the Mumbai coast on Tuesday.

The operation, coordinated by multiple agencies, involved the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai, which received an urgent distress call from the vessel approximately 370 kilometers (200 nautical miles) from Mumbai.

The distress call reported that a 51-year-old mariner was suffering from severe injuries and significant blood loss, necessitating immediate evacuation. In response, the Indian Navy launched a Seaking helicopter from INS Shikra at 5:50 am.

Despite challenging conditions, including high winds exceeding 45 knots and the vessel’s heavy rolling, the naval team successfully airlifted the injured mariner from the bridge wing of the bulk carrier.

The operation was further supported by the Indian Coast Guard Ship Samrat, which was diverted to provide additional assistance.

Following the successful airlift, the mariner was transported to a nearby air station and subsequently transferred to a hospital for further medical treatment. The joint effort by MRCC, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Coast Guard highlighted the effectiveness of their coordination in such critical maritime emergencies.
