Indian Navy Finds Body of Leading Seaman in INS Brahmaputra Fire Incident

Mumbai, 25th July. The Indian Navy has informed that they found the body of Leading Seaman Sitendra Singh following an extensive diving operation. Singh had been missing since a fire broke out aboard the multirole frigate INS Brahmaputra on Sunday.

The Navy expressed its deep condolences to Singh’s family, highlighting the loss with a statement from Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.

“Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff, and all personnel of the Indian Navy mourn the loss of life and pay tribute to Sitendra Singh, Ag LS (UW), who lost his life in the unfortunate incident onboard INS Brahmaputra at Mumbai, and extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” read the official statement.

This announcement coincides with Admiral Tripathi’s visit to Mumbai on July 23, 2024, to review the incident.

During his visit, the CNS was briefed on the steps taken to manage the damage and the plans for repairs to return the ship to operational status. Admiral Tripathi directed that all necessary measures be taken to make INS Brahmaputra seaworthy and combat-ready as soon as possible.

The fire on INS Brahmaputra occurred at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on July 21 while the ship was undergoing a refit. It was extinguished by the ship’s crew, with support from dockyard firefighters and other naval vessels by the morning of July 22. Follow-up actions included checks for any residual fire risks.
