New Delhi, 7th June. To further bolster the robust defense ties between India and Oman in the maritime domain, the 6th edition of Staff Talks between the Indian Navy (IN) and the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) took place from June 4 to 5, 2024, in New Delhi.
Led by Cmde Jasim Mohammed Ali Al Balushi, DG Ops & Plans, the delegation from RNO engaged in constructive discussions alongside Cmde Manmeet Singh Khurana, Commodore (FC), who led the IN delegation. This series of Navy-to-Navy Staff Talks underscores the enduring bilateral relations between these two historical maritime neighbors.
Strengthening Maritime Security Cooperation
Throughout the Staff Talks, both sides delved into shared maritime security challenges, emphasizing the need for heightened interoperability at sea. Discussions also revolved around operational collaboration, information sharing, Maritime Domain Awareness, training, meteorology, hydrography, and technical assistance.
The delegation had the opportunity to visit the Information Fusion Centre for Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram, where they met with VAdm Tarun Sobti, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, Indian Navy, further enriching the exchange of insights and strategies.
Consolidating Naval Cooperation
Oman stands as one of India’s closest partners in the Gulf region, and the regular conduct of Staff Talks serves as a cornerstone in solidifying gains in naval cooperation. These engagements are instrumental in deepening the existing partnership between both Navies, paving the way for enhanced maritime security and stability in the region.
