Indian Cyber-Security Agencies Detect Phishing Scam Targeting Defence Ministry

New Delhi, 6th Sept. Indian cyber-security agencies have uncovered a phishing fraud that mimics the official Ministry of Defence website to steal sensitive government documents.

The National Informatics Centre (NIC) issued an advisory warning about two phishing links—mod.gov.in.aboutcase.nl/publications.html and mod.gov.in.army.aboutcase.nl/publications.html—designed to harvest login credentials of government officials.

The fake links, resembling the original MoD site, redirect users to a “login-error.html” page after collecting credentials. The phishing attack primarily targets NIC-provided logins to access sensitive Indian government documents.

The NIC advises government officials to delete such emails and take immediate action if they interact with the links, including disabling their internet connection and changing passwords. The advisory also warns against emails from untrusted sources and highlights the dangers of shortened URLs.

A similar phishing attempt targeting the National Investigation Agency was detected earlier this year.
