Gulf of Khambat, 5th April. In a swift and daring operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Station Pipavav successfully evacuated a critically injured crew member from an Indian Fishing Boat named Pushkar Raj, situated 50 kilometers from the coast in the Gulf of Khambat.
The rescue mission, conducted on April 3, 2024, saw the deployment of the ICG Interceptor Boat C-409, which was diverted by the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre, Pipavav, upon receiving the distress call.
Upon reaching the scene of action, the Interceptor Boat established communication with the fishing boat and learned that a 37-year-old crew member had suffered a severe fracture in his left foot, with his ankle dislocated.
Acting swiftly, the Coast Guard team safely evacuated the injured fisherman, ensuring his prompt medical attention. The crew administered initial treatment onboard before transferring the patient to a government hospital for further medical management.
The successful rescue operation highlights the Indian Coast Guard’s unwavering commitment to maritime safety and humanitarian efforts, especially in perilous situations at sea. Their swift response and efficient coordination with maritime rescue centers exemplify their dedication to saving lives and ensuring the well-being of seafarers in distress.
