Indian Army Thwarts Multiple Drone Strikes, Ceasefire Violations by Pakistan

New Delhi, 9th May:
The Indian Army on the intervening night of May 8-9 repelled multiple drone attacks and ceasefire violations launched by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) and the western border in Jammu and Kashmir. The Army said its response was “decisive and effective,” carried out under the ongoing Operation Sindoor.

In a statement on X, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) confirmed the Indian Armed Forces had “effectively neutralised” the drone threats and retaliated strongly to ceasefire violations. The Army reaffirmed its commitment to defending India’s sovereignty, warning that “all nefarious designs will be responded with force.”

According to the Army, Pakistani troops attempted to use swarm drones and artillery to target Indian positions and civilian areas in sectors including Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota, and Pathankot. More than 50 Pakistani drones were shot down using advanced counter-UAS systems such as L-70 guns, ZU-23 mm, and Schilka systems.

This aggressive maneuver by Pakistan follows India’s sweeping offensive under Operation Sindoor, which began Wednesday and targeted at least nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

“No casualties have been reported so far,” Army sources confirmed, highlighting the success of the counter-drone and border security response.

Operation Sindoor comes in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 Hindu tourists, prompting a robust national security response from India.
