India Witnessing Era of Economic Empowerment and Innovation: Om Birla

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday presented a comprehensive vision for transforming India into a fully developed nation by 2047, calling for a sustainable and inclusive development model that champions innovation, economic empowerment, and enterprise.

Addressing members of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) on its 120th anniversary in New Delhi, Birla said the present era in India is one of economic transformation powered by innovation and forward-thinking policies.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of industry and commerce in national development, Birla said, “India’s development-oriented policies are providing new energy to our industries. We are witnessing an era of economic empowerment and innovation.” He highlighted the importance of aligning trade and industrial strategy with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat to strengthen India’s position on the global economic map.

Birla noted that India is becoming a beacon for global investors, with improvements in the ease of doing business and a resurgence post-pandemic that serves as a model for developing economies. Government initiatives like Make in India, Digital India, Gati Shakti, Bharatmala, Udaan Yojana, and the expansion of electronic manufacturing clusters were cited as key pillars of India’s growing industrial infrastructure.

He praised the simplification of industrial policies and the rollout of a transparent, investor-friendly tax regime along with single-window clearances as essential steps in nurturing entrepreneurship. India’s transition from a consumer-driven to an innovation-led economy, particularly through its vibrant start-up ecosystem, is central to this shift, Shri Birla said.

The Lok Sabha Speaker also underscored the transformative impact of digital technology, especially in expanding economic inclusion. He noted that rising digital transactions and tech adoption are linking even remote areas to the national economy, paving the way for shared growth.

Birla appreciated the efforts of PHDCCI in bridging the gap between industry and policy makers, and especially lauded its initiatives to promote women entrepreneurship. He commended programmes like the Women Entrepreneurship Development and Networking & Mentoring platforms for empowering Nari Shakti and enhancing women’s role in business leadership.

Concluding his address, Birla emphasized that institutions like PHDCCI play a critical role in realising India’s vision of Vikshit Bharat 2047 through their insights and close engagement with industry.
