“India Without North-East, and North-East Without India is Incomplete”: Amit Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Thursday attended the ‘Unity Utsav – One Voice, One Nation’ festival organized by Assam Rifles in New Delhi as the chief guest. The five-day festival showcased the cultural unity and diversity of the North-East.

In his address, Shah emphasized the Modi government’s commitment to the North-East, stating that the region has witnessed a 70% decline in violent incidents and an 85% reduction in civilian casualties. He noted that by 2027, all eight North-Eastern states will be connected to Delhi via rail and air links.

Highlighting the North-East’s cultural richness, Shah pointed out that the region is home to over 220 ethnic groups, 160 tribes, 200 dialects, and more than 50 unique festivals. He stated, “India without the North-East and the North-East without India is incomplete.”

Shah praised Assam Rifles, India’s oldest paramilitary force, for its role in maintaining peace and aiding the region’s development. He also highlighted the North-East’s contribution to sports, expressing confidence that by the 2036 Olympics, India will be in the top 10 medal tally, with North-Eastern states playing a crucial role.

Over the past decade, the Modi government has focused on economic growth, cultural development, and security in the region. Since 2014, more than 10,500 militants have surrendered, and 12 peace accords have been signed between 2019 and 2024. Shah called upon the youth to embrace opportunities and contribute to the nation’s progress.
