Bhubaneswar, 14th August. India has achieved a significant milestone in its defense capabilities with the successful maiden flight test of the long-range glide bomb (LRGB) named ‘Gaurav.’ Conducted off the coast of Odisha, the test saw the glide bomb launched from a Su-30 MK-I fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) with precision accuracy, hitting the target at Long Wheeler’s Island.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the IAF, and industry partners for the success of the test. He described it as a major step forward in India’s efforts to bolster indigenous defense technologies.
The ‘Gaurav’ is a 1,000 kg class air-launched glide bomb designed to strike targets at extended ranges. Following its launch, it employs a highly accurate hybrid navigation system to ensure precise targeting.
Developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad, the bomb’s flight data was meticulously captured by telemetry and electro-optical tracking systems provided by the Integrated Test Range. The test was overseen by senior DRDO scientists and involved development partners Adani Defence and Bharat Forge.
Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, commended the entire team for their successful execution of the test.
