Geneva, 5th March. India launched a scathing response to Pakistan’s raising of the Jammu and Kashmir issue at the UN Human Rights Council, accusing Pakistan of hypocrisy and urging it to reflect on its own human rights violations and its reputation as a “terrorism factory.”During the 55th Regular Session of the UN Human Rights Council on Monday, Under Secretary Jagpreet Kaur from India’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva exercised India’s Right of Reply. Without directly naming Pakistan, Kaur criticized the country for its ongoing criticism of India, particularly through the misuse of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s platform.
Kaur emphasized India’s reluctance to engage in responding to what she termed as “fallacious comments” from a specific delegation, implying Pakistan, which lacked constructive contributions. Instead, she urged Pakistan to introspect on its own human rights record and its notorious reputation for harboring terrorism.
This exchange follows India’s previous strong retort to Pakistan’s remarks at the Council, where First Secretary Anupama Singh highlighted Pakistan’s sponsorship of terrorism worldwide and its hosting of UN Security Council-sanctioned terrorists. Singh emphasized the stark contrast between India’s pluralistic democracy and Pakistan’s support for terrorism.
