India Reaffirms Commitment to Women and Child Welfare at UN Commission on the Status of Women

New York: Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Annpurna Devi, led the Indian delegation at the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The high-profile event, which commenced on March 10, 2025, brought together world leaders, policymakers, and civil society representatives to discuss the progress and challenges of gender equality.

Addressing the Ministerial Forum, Smt. Annpurna Devi reaffirmed India’s strong commitment to the empowerment, protection, and holistic development of women and children. Speaking on the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, she underscored India’s significant advancements in gender equality, emphasizing the country’s efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Minister highlighted India’s transformative flagship schemes, which have had a major impact on improving health, nutrition, education, and economic opportunities for women and children. She pointed out that these initiatives have helped to reduce disparities, enhance access to resources, and create a more inclusive society.

Smt. Annpurna Devi stressed the need for strengthened implementation and outreach, ensuring that every woman and girl in India receives their rightful entitlements. She reiterated the government’s resolve to make gender equality a central pillar of national progress. “The welfare of women and children is at the core of our nation’s development. Through a multi-pronged approach, we are building a future where every woman is empowered and every child is nurtured in a safe and supportive environment,” she stated.

The CSW session witnessed participation from UN member states, intergovernmental organizations, private sector representatives, philanthropists, academia, and civil society groups. Discussions focused on global gender policies, women’s leadership, and economic empowerment, with India playing an active role in shaping the global discourse.

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the leading global intergovernmental body dedicated to promoting gender equality and women’s rights. It operates under the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and will continue its deliberations until March 21, 2025.

With India’s renewed commitment to gender equality, the country’s representation at the CSW serves as a testament to its dedication to empowering women and children, ensuring their rightful place in national and global development efforts.
