New Delhi– In a significant move to democratize education across India, Hon’ble Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, has announced the gazette notification for ‘Gyan Post,’ a new postal service aimed at delivering educational, social, cultural, and religious books at highly affordable rates.
This initiative, set to be operational from May 1st, 2025, will enable students and learners in even the most remote areas to access essential study materials. ‘Gyan Post’ will leverage India Post’s extensive network to ensure that geographical barriers do not hinder access to education.
Minister Scindia emphasized the service’s alignment with the New Education Policy, stating, “’Gyan Post’ serves as a vital delivery mechanism for ensuring that education reaches every individual.”
Key Features of ‘Gyan Post’:
- Affordable Pricing: Rates start at ₹20 for packets up to 300 grams, and go up to a maximum of ₹100 for packets up to 5 kilograms (taxes applicable).
- Nationwide Coverage: Available at all departmental post offices across India.
- Trackable Delivery: Ensures secure and traceable delivery of packages.
- Surface Mode Transport: Utilizes surface mode for cost-effective delivery.
- Eligibility: Only non-commercial, educational materials are eligible.
- Publisher/Printer Details: Mandatory inclusion of printer or publisher names on books.
‘Gyan Post’ aims to bridge the education gap by making learning resources more accessible, reinforcing India Post’s commitment to public service.
