New Delhi, 3rd Dec. Senior Italian Minister Adolfo Urso, currently visiting India, met Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Dr. Jitendra Singh on Monday to discuss the extension of bilateral cooperation in science, technology, innovation, and space exploration. The two ministers highlighted the growing partnership between the two nations, with a focus on collaborative efforts to address global challenges and promote sustainable development.
Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the robust foundation of Indo-Italian ties, noting that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India and Italy are taking proactive steps to foster innovation. “India and Italy share a vibrant history of scientific collaboration, and we are building on that with new initiatives in various sectors,” Dr. Singh stated.
The meeting underscored Italy’s interest in expanding cooperation, particularly in space technology and advanced manufacturing. Both nations acknowledged the importance of their long-standing partnership in scientific research, notably through the Synchrotron facility, Elettra, in Trieste. Indian scientists, who are the second-largest users of the facility, have contributed to cutting-edge research in material science and engineering.
Looking ahead, the two ministers discussed the upcoming Executive Programme of Cooperation for 2025-2027, which will fund joint research projects. They also proposed an Indo-Italian Innovation and Incubation Exchange Programme to connect startups, academic institutions, and policymakers, fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
In the field of space collaboration, Dr. Singh emphasized India’s rapidly growing space tech ecosystem and the opportunities for joint ventures in satellite technology, deep-space exploration, and other frontier areas. Both ministers also explored potential partnerships in Industry 4.0, AI, clean energy, and quantum technologies.
The dialogue also focused on India’s thriving startup ecosystem, which ranks third globally. With initiatives like Make in India and Start-up India, India provides fertile ground for Indo-Italian collaborations in entrepreneurship and innovation.
Dr. Jitendra Singh concluded the meeting by saying, “This partnership is about building a shared future driven by innovation, inclusivity, and excellence. Together, we can achieve remarkable milestones that benefit both our nations and the world.”
