India-Italy Joint Plan Targets Economic, Defence, and Cultural Growth for 2025-2029

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have announced a comprehensive India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan for 2025-2029 during their meeting at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The plan aims to bolster bilateral ties through focused initiatives across political dialogue, economic cooperation, science and technology, space exploration, and cultural exchanges.

Strategic Action Plan:

1. Political Dialogue

  • Regular high-level meetings between heads of government, foreign affairs, trade, and defence ministries.
  • Annual bilateral consultations to strengthen collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

2. Economic Cooperation

  • Enhancing trade and investment in high-potential sectors such as sustainable mobility, green technologies, and food processing.
  • Promoting industrial partnerships and participation in trade fairs and business forums.

3. Science and Technology

  • Expanding collaboration in critical technologies, artificial intelligence, and clean energy.
  • Launching the Indo-Italian Innovation and Incubation Exchange Programme to foster startups and academic exchanges.

4. Space Sector

  • Strengthening ties between ISRO and the Italian Space Agency for joint projects in Earth observation, heliophysics, and lunar science.
  • Organizing a delegation for space research and industry collaboration by mid-2025.

5. Defence Cooperation

  • Annual Joint Defence Consultative meetings and increased maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
  • Co-development of defence platforms and equipment and enhanced interactions among armed forces.

6. Energy Transition

  • Joint efforts in renewable energy, biofuels, and green hydrogen through R&D and tech summits.
  • Collaboration under the Global Biofuels Alliance and International Solar Alliance.

7. Cultural and People-to-People Ties

  • Enhanced collaboration in academia, museum partnerships, and tourism promotion.
  • Increased mobility of students and professionals under structured agreements.

The ambitious plan reflects the deepening partnership between India and Italy and their shared vision for addressing global challenges collaboratively.
