India Crushes Pak’s Retaliation: Rajnath, Military Chiefs Plan Next Moves After ‘Op Sindoor’ Strikes

New Delhi, 9th May: In the wake of intense cross-border hostilities, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh convened a crucial meeting with Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and the three service chiefs in Delhi on Friday morning. The meeting came hours after Indian forces thwarted a wave of missile and drone strikes launched by Pakistan on multiple Indian military installations and cities as part of its escalating retaliation to India’s anti-terror offensive — Operation Sindoor.
Indian defences successfully intercepted the second round of Pakistani aerial assaults on military zones across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Punjab that began around 8:30 pm Thursday. Key targets included defence stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, which were swiftly protected by Indian countermeasures.
Several areas — including Srinagar, Jammu, and parts of Punjab and Rajasthan — experienced widespread power outages during the night amid heightened military activity. Sources confirmed that Indian forces have destroyed multiple Pakistani military posts along the Line of Control (LoC) using anti-tank guided missiles in a precision response to unprovoked firing.
“Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the entire Western Border on the intervening night of 08 and 09 May 2025. Pak troops also resorted to numerous ceasefire violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir,” the Indian Army stated.
The Army further emphasized that the drone incursions were effectively neutralised and that India’s forces delivered a “befitting reply” to all ceasefire violations. “Indian Army remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nation. All nefarious designs will be responded to with force,” it affirmed.
The escalation follows India’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. In response, India launched a sweeping cross-border assault under Operation Sindoor, firing 24 missiles in just 25 minutes at nine terror-linked locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. Government sources reported the killing of 70 terrorists and injury to at least 60 others in the coordinated strikes.
Pakistan’s counteroffensive included indiscriminate firing and artillery shelling along the LoC, which killed at least 16 civilians in India’s Jammu and Kashmir region. Indian troops continue to retaliate forcefully amid concerns of a prolonged military standoff.
