India Bans 16 Pakistani YouTube Channels for Spreading Disinformation

New Delhi – In a decisive move after the tragic Pahalgam terror incident, the Indian government has banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for disseminating provocative and communally sensitive content, along with false and misleading narratives targeting India, its Army, and security agencies.

The Ministry of Home Affairs recommended the ban, citing that these channels were spreading disinformation related to India’s national security, foreign relations, and public order. Collectively, these channels boasted a viewership exceeding 6.3080 crore.

The banned channels include prominent names such as:

  • Dawn News
  • Irshad Bhatti
  • SAMAA TV
  • ARY NEWS
  • BOL NEWS
  • Raftar
  • The Pakistan Reference
  • Geo News
  • Samaa Sports
  • GNN
  • Uzair Cricket
  • Umar Cheema Exclusive
  • Asma Shirazi
  • Muneeb Farooq
  • SUNO News HD
  • Razi Naama

According to an official statement, these channels were disseminating fake news on subjects including the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir, and India’s foreign relations, with the intent to create panic, incite communal disharmony, and disrupt public order within India.

In a related development, India has also withheld the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Government of Pakistan. This action comes in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians and injuries to several others.

Following the attack, India has pursued a strong diplomatic response, summoning Pakistan’s top diplomat in New Delhi and issuing a formal Persona Non Grata note for all Pakistani military attaches. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), led by Prime Minister Modi, has also announced stringent measures, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the closure of the Attari-Wagah border.
