New Delhi, 10th March. Australia and India are great friends, and both sides are strengthening their relationship every day, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Friday, ahead of talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Albanese also stated that while India and Australia compete on the cricket field to be the best team in the world, the two countries are working together to build a better world.

The Australian PM made the remarks after he was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning.

Albanese arrived in Delhi on Thursday evening, after visiting Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

PM Modi and PM Albanese attended the fourth Test match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad on Thursday morning.

“Australia and India are great friends We are partners and we are building that partnership even stronger each and every day,” Albanese said.

The Australian prime minister said Canberra wants to cooperate with India to build a stronger relationship in areas of culture, economic relations as well as security.

“We are competing on the cricket field to be the world’s best but together we are building a better world,” he said.

PM Albanese also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

PM Modi and PM Albanese are expected to focus their discussions on strengthening overall bilateral ties in areas such as trade and investment, defense, and critical minerals.

According to people familiar with the matter, the two leaders will also review the situation in the Indo-Pacific, amid growing concerns about China’s increasing military assertiveness in the region.

PM Albanese stated just days before his visit to India that a stronger India-Australia partnership is good for regional stability and means more trade and investment.

It is his first visit to India since taking office in May of last year.
