‘India Africa Postal Leaders Meet’ Strengthens Indo-Africa Ties Through Postal Services

The ‘India Africa Postal Leaders Meet’ is currently underway in India, marking a significant step towards bolstering Indo-Africa relations in the realm of postal services. Organized from 21st to 25th June 2024, this initiative underscores India’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with 22 African countries from the Global South.

Hosted under the auspices of the Universal Postal Union’s “South-South and Triangular Cooperation” programme, the event has brought together 42 heads of postal administrations and senior management officials from across Africa. Supported by India Post and the United States Postal Service, the meet focuses on capacity building and mutual learning through study visits, showcasing India’s innovative postal service delivery models.

Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia, highlighted the event’s significance, stating, “This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering stronger Indo-Africa ties through the platform of postal services. I am confident that this program will facilitate the exchange of best practices and enhance the global postal network for last mile delivery of services.”

During the event, delegates explored India Post’s advanced capabilities in areas such as e-commerce parcels, postal financial services, and citizen-centric services like Aadhaar-enabled facilities. The meet also emphasized the role of digital infrastructure, including the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Aadhaar, in transforming service delivery.

Minister of State for Communications, Shri Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, affirmed India’s dedication to supporting Africa in overcoming postal challenges, particularly in cross-border e-commerce and financial inclusion. He pledged continued assistance through India’s technical and economic cooperation initiatives.

The summit concluded with expressions of gratitude from delegates towards the Government of India for hosting a productive event aimed at advancing global postal services and strengthening partnerships within the Global South.

The event witnessed participation from senior officials representing various Indian ministries and key stakeholders in the postal sector.
