Hisar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party on Monday, accusing it of manipulating the Waqf (Amendment) Act for political gain and appeasement. Speaking at a rally after inaugurating the Hisar Airport in Haryana, PM Modi said that the Congress had amended the Waqf law arbitrarily and solely to benefit Muslim fundamentalists and land mafias.
The Prime Minister questioned the Congress’s commitment to minority welfare, challenging the party to name a Muslim president and allocate 50% of its Lok Sabha election tickets to Muslim candidates. “If you truly care for Muslims, show it through representation. But the Congress won’t do it — because their goal was never real empowerment, only vote-bank politics,” he said.
Referring to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, PM Modi said, “Babasaheb stood for equality, but Congress conspired to keep him out of the system. They insulted him during his life, made him lose elections, and tried to erase his legacy after his death.”
Modi further accused the Congress of twisting the Constitution for power, especially during the Emergency. He said, “The Constitution talks of a Uniform Civil Code, but Congress never implemented it. Today, when Uttarakhand has taken that step, Congress is opposing it.”
Addressing the changes in the Waqf law, PM Modi claimed, “Lakhs of hectares of land were under Waqf properties. Had these been used honestly, Muslim youth wouldn’t be repairing bicycle punctures for a living. Instead, land mafias looted land meant for Dalits, backward classes, and widows.”
He asserted that the new amendments to the Waqf law would ensure such exploitation ends. “No longer will Waqf Boards be able to touch tribal lands. The new law ensures rights for poor and Pasmanda Muslims. This is what real social justice looks like,” he declared.
PM Modi’s remarks come amid ongoing national debate over the Waqf Amendment Act and its political ramifications, particularly in states where Waqf properties cover vast tracts of land.
The rally also marked the launch of several infrastructure projects in Haryana worth over ₹10,000 crore, reinforcing the government’s focus on development ahead of the upcoming elections.
